Abstract

Across child and family services and education, practitioners increasingly work with families facing multiple layers of distress: economic precarity, migration, racism, intergenerational trauma, and the cumulative effects of austerity. Yet many of the therapeutic models we rely on, however well-established, were developed in contexts that assumed stability, resources, and normative family life. This article asks what happens when one such model, non-violent resistance (NVR), is used with families whose lives are shaped by structural inequality and ongoing histories of harm.
