Abstract

For our closing centenary event we will explore the mental health landscape in our post-Covid world. About this Event: In the wake of a global pandemic and the mobilisation of Black Lives Matter, countries across the world are facing the consequences of widening inequalities laid bare and an escalating mental health crisis. What can we do as individuals and as part of our personal and professional communities to spread kindness? Our keynote speaker Julia Unwin will talk about kindness in public life and provide perspectives on the upheaval and uncertainties of the last year. With talk of a ‘mental health pandemic’, what can we do to foster wellbeing as we navigate the post-COVID-19 world? The Tavistock and Portman has been a leader of innovation in practice and public policy over the last 100 years. It has been at the forefront of providing compassionate and contemporary responses to the major events of the 20th and 21stcentury. How should the Tavistock and Portman best apply its psychoanalytic and systemic thinking to respond, at both the practice and public policy levels, to these challenges and opportunities? Dinesh Sinha will paint a picture of the mental health landscape and how the distinctive Tavistock perspective can shape it for the better. He will explore emerging approaches and innovations in our mental health work. Chaired by Paul Burstow, Chair of the Trust Board, and Louise Lyon, Chair of the Centenary Programme, we are delighted to be joined by Julia and Dinesh for what will be an inspirational and stimulating closing centenary talk. Our audience will be invited to respond and to provide their own reflections on our contemporary and future mental health challenges.
